The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the final forfeiture application of $845,316.66 and N2,421,953,522.78 until March 28, 2023, which is claimed to belong to former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan.

The trial judge, Justice Tijjani Ringim, adjourned the case after hearing arguments from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, and the defense counsels, Mike Ozekhome and Sammie Somiari.

The defense had requested that the case be adjourned indefinitely while the EFCC argued that the Supreme Court had already ruled on the final forfeiture application. Justice Ringim upheld the EFCC’s submissions and directed that the motion for final forfeiture be taken and determined first. The case has a history of appeals, including to the Supreme Court, which ruled that the lower court should continue with the hearing of the matter.

The case was transferred from Justice Cecilia Olatoregun, now retired, to Justice Chuka Obiozor, and then to Justice Ringim.
