In a disturbing turn of events, operatives from the Quick Intervention Squad (QIS) of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have apprehended Gabriel Okon Ekpiri, a resident of Ekit Itam Akpan Obong in Itu Local Government Area. Ekpiri stands accused of selling his own nine-year-old son for a sum of N400,000.

The news was confirmed by Mr. Odiko MacDon, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, through a statement released to the press in Uyo. The statement detailed the shocking circumstances surrounding the arrest and emphasized the gravity of the crime.

Furthermore, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olatoye Durosinmi, recently decorated two Deputy Commissioners of Police who are currently serving in the Command. DCP Baba Lawan Audu, the Area Commander of the Eket Area Command, and DCP Lawal Isa Mani from the Department of Operations were honored in a ceremony held on Monday.

During the ceremony, Commissioner Durosinmi conveyed warm congratulations to the newly decorated officers on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Acting IGP Olukayode Egbetokun. He urged them to enhance their productivity and effectively carry out their roles as deputy commissioners.

Expressing their gratitude, the promoted officers extended their appreciation to the Police Service Commission and the Inspector General of Police for recognizing their dedication and professionalism. They also commended Commissioner Durosinmi for his exemplary leadership and unwavering support toward the officers and personnel of the Command.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police strongly condemned the despicable actions of Gabriel Okon Ekpiri, labeling them as barbaric and entirely unacceptable. The suspect, who hails from Ekit Itam Akpan Obong in Itu Local Government Area, has admitted guilt in the presence of the Quick Intervention Squad, citing the influence of the devil and economic hardship as contributing factors to his heinous act.

The arrest of Ekpiri serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and a prompt response from law enforcement agencies in curbing such abominable practices. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command continues to be committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens.
