However, the game at Goodison Park proved to be the one that had more of a spark as it was a five-goal thriller. Crystal Palace took the lead in the first half, with Jean-Philippe Mateta giving the Eagles the lead in 21 minutes. Jordan Ayew doubled Palace’s advantage and that kept the score at 0-2 to the visitors at halftime.

The second half got underway and it was Everton who were showing signs of getting a goal this time. The goal finally came courtesy Michael Keane in the 54th minute and there was now hope for the Toffees. It took a while but their star forward Richarlison scored to make it all square in the 75th minute.

With fifteen minutes to go, both sides were having a totally different approach to the game. Everton began to attack and this prevented the Eagles from launching an attack or even building up play. The game continued in this manner and then Everton won a free-kick just some thirty yards from goal. Demarai Gray stood over the ball and played in a delightful cross which was met smartly by the head of Dominic Calvert-Lewin who headed it into the back of the net to give Everton the lead for the first time in the game.

With this victory, the Toffees have secured safety in the Premier League and will be in England’s first tier in the coming season. This is the first time in Everton’s Premier League history that they will come from a two-goal deficit to win the game. Fans spilled onto the pitch in the most bizarre fashion to celebrate with the players following their victory at home. Everton take on Arsenal in the final day of the Premier League season.
