Manchester City’s Erling Haaland continues to make history in his debut season with the club. The 22-year-old forward scored his 45th goal of the season in all competitions during City’s 3-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday. This goal broke the Premier League’s scoring record for a single season by a player.
Haaland’s remarkable achievement follows his recent feat of becoming the third player to reach 30 Premier League goals in a debut season with a brace in City’s 4-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday. The Norwegian international has surpassed the 44-goal record set by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
Haaland now has his eyes set on Clive Allen’s English top-flight goal record of 49 goals in all competitions. Additionally, he is only two goals away from surpassing Salah’s record of 32 goals in a 38-game league season. He could also break Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer’s record of scoring 34 goals in a single league season.
Manchester City will face Leicester City, who are currently battling against relegation, on Saturday before traveling to Germany for their Champions League quarterfinal second-leg tie against Bayern. With Haaland in top form, City fans will be hopeful that he can continue his goal-scoring streak and lead the team to victory in these crucial matches.
