The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State has paraded six suspects for attempted murder in the Ekute area of the state capital. The suspects, identified as Tosin (22), Abejide (22), Adeoye (21), Oke (22), Ayeni (22), and Iremide (22), were arrested on Sunday at Ekute after being on the radar of the command’s Counter Terrorism Unit since March 8, 2023.

According to the NSCDC State Public Relations Officer, Tolulope Afolabi, the suspects were members of a cult group in the state capital. The suspects had attempted to kill a young lady named Omolola (23), who reported the case of attempted murder and how she was stripped naked by the suspects during a misunderstanding and mobbed. In a cruel and inhumane act, they injected pepper into her private part and took a video which they posted on a social media group created by their leader, Tosin.

The NSCDC spokesperson stated that their preliminary investigation showed that the suspects were members of a cult group in the state capital, and their original mission was to kill the victim and dump her in a pit before an unknown person in the neighbourhood came to her rescue.

In a related development, some students who were suspected to be members of the Eiye Fraternity were arrested by the CTU on April 8. The suspects, Adebayo (19), Aladegbemi (22), Ayedemi (18), Oyebanji (20), Abiodun (23), Taiwo (23), and Abiodun (25), were caught with some stolen goods in their custody while attacking people living along Poly Road in Ado Ekiti.

The NSCDC in Ekiti State has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens and residents in the state. The Corps has urged members of the public to provide timely and useful information that would assist in combating criminal activities and maintaining law and order in the state.
