Deontay Wilder Faces Weapons Charge in LA Arrest

According to reports from the Los Angeles Police Department, former world heavyweight boxing champion, Deontay Wilder, was arrested in Los Angeles in the early hours of Tuesday on charges of possession of a concealed weapon. The LAPD stated that Wilder was detained after he was pulled over while driving his Rolls Royce car in Hollywood.

The police have alleged that the windows of Wilder’s car were illegally tinted and his license plate was obstructed. Upon further investigation, the officers claimed that they smelled “burnt marijuana” coming from the vehicle and conducted a search, which led to the discovery of a firearm. The LAPD subsequently booked Wilder on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in his vehicle.

According to TMZ.com, Wilder was “cooperative and nice” during the incident. The website also reported that Wilder was released at approximately 6:35 am after posting bail, which was set at $35,000.

Wilder later posted a cryptic message on his Twitter account a few hours after his release, saying, “I’d rather be safe than sorry. The End.”

Wilder, who has a record of 43-2-1 with 42 knockouts, returned to the ring last year after a year-long absence following his third fight with World Boxing Council heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in October 2021.
