Police Rescue Kidnap Victims in Delta State Gun Battle

The police in Delta State have intercepted and engaged a gang of four suspected kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, ultimately rescuing two kidnap victims. The incident took place at the ECN junction of Agbarho/Ughelli Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area. The suspects managed to escape into the bush with various degrees of bullet injuries.

According to Mr. Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, the incident occurred on April 24, 2023, at about 2:00 a.m. The DPO Owvian Aladja, CSP Aliyu Shaba, received a distress call that two individuals, Ovigwe Dagagba and Obinna Nwanko, had been kidnapped by a gang of four suspected kidnappers operating on a tricycle.

The kidnappers then conveyed their victims in a Toyota Corolla car belonging to one of the victims from Usiefurun roundabout and headed towards Udu LGA.

Upon receiving the information, the DPO quickly mobilized and led a team of police operatives, who trailed and intercepted the kidnappers at ECN junction along Agbarho/Ughelli road.

The police operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel that forced them to abandon the car, the kidnapped victims, and escape into the bush with various degrees of bullet injuries. Fortunately, the victims were rescued unhurt and have been reunited with their families.

During a search of the vehicle, the police recovered 26 pieces of assorted android phones, one cut-to-size locally made single barrel gun, 38 rounds of live cartridges, two expended cartridges, two Monie point POS machines, four power banks, and two empty female handbags. The tricycle with registration number KPE 73 QT used by the suspected kidnappers was also recovered.

While the manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing, the deputy commissioner of police in-charge Operations DCP Johnson Adenola has directed officers and men of the Command to sustain the tempo in the fight against crime and criminality. He also urged members of the public to report any suspicious person or movement around them.
