In an exclusive interview with Hip TV, the talented artist shared that the passing of the mother of his record label boss, Don Jazzy, served as the poignant catalyst for the creation of the emotionally charged track.

Johnny Drille disclosed that he collaborated with Don Jazzy in penning the heartfelt lyrics of ‘How Are You My Friend’, emphasizing that it was the brainchild of the renowned Mavin boss himself.

“For ‘How Are You My Friend’, the inspiration behind it was Don Jazzy, he had just lost his mum a couple of weeks prior, Johnny Drille revealed during the interview.

“I guess, maybe this [the song] was his own way of talking about it because a lot of people were reaching out to him that he has not heard from like years. So, it just kind of hit him that, ‘Omo, I actually have these many friends that I have not spoken with for so long.

He further added, “I also think that we are also in pretty tough times. The economy is crazy. A lot of people having it hard. A lot of people go through things in their lives that sometimes they don’t feel comfortable sharing them. And I guess, maybe that is why people have been able to connect with the song.”

Johnny Drille’s revelation offers fans a glimpse into the intimate creative process behind ‘How Are You, My Friend’, shedding light on the sincere emotions that guided its inception.
