Davido Optimistic About Uncle’s Supreme Court Case

Popular Afrobeats musician, David Adeleke, who is widely known by his stage name, Davido, has sought divine intervention ahead of the upcoming Supreme Court ruling involving his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, who is currently the Governor of Osun State, Nigeria.

The apex court is set to deliver a judgment on the July 16, 2022 governorship election tussle in Osun State on May 9, 2023. A five-member panel of Justices led by Justice John Okoro has been assigned to preside over the case after all parties involved had submitted their written briefs.

It will be recalled that the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, had previously set aside the decision of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which had nullified the election of Senator Ademola Adeleke as the Governor of Osun State. As a result, the appellate court had declared Adeleke as the rightful winner of the State’s governorship election.

In anticipation of the verdict, Davido, who had been a vocal supporter of his uncle’s campaign before the polls, expressed optimism that the Supreme Court would affirm Adeleke’s victory. Taking to his Twitter handle, the singer wrote, “Osun State Election Petition hearing comes up at the Supreme Court today. We look forward to the judicial affirmation of @AAdeleke_01 (The people’s) mandate. The hardest part is done, winning a free and fair Election. May God let the court do the right thing.”

The Adeleke family has a strong political background in Osun State, with Ademola Adeleke’s late brother, Isiaka Adeleke, serving as the state’s first civilian governor in 1992.
