Brighton defender Marc Cucurella has been in the news lately and it is no surprise as the left-back had a fantastic season with the Seagulls this season. His displays in his position have attracted a lot of clubs and there are big money teams on the table.

Manchester City have declared an interest in the Spanish defender but this is only remote interest. Recall that Manchester City was linked to Nico Tagliafico of Ajax back in January but a deal failed to materialize between the parties involved.

Their attention turned to the 23-year-old who has been in fine form over the past two seasons and has been a mainstay under Graham Potter on the South Coast. More importantly, Cucurella won the Player of the Season at Brighton and this is a testament to his great footballing abilities.

City are rivaled by Chelsea who are ready to spend big this summer, following the takeover of Todd Boehly as the new owner of the club. The Wes-Londoners are ready to meet the big demands of the transfer window this summer, with a host of players being monitored by their scouts.

Cucurella will not come cheap, at least Brighton insists. The Seagulls are demanding £45m for the fullback and they expect discussions to be well underway pending if Chelsea agrees to the fee.  It is not yet certain what Chelsea will do, but a source close to the club believes Cucurella will be ”a Blue in a matter of weeks.”

Manchester City are remotely interested as their primary focus is to sign a defensive midfielder this summer as club captain Fernandinho intends to leave at the end of the season. Chelsea will review this price tag and will communicate with Brighton in a few days’ time.

Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe in the summer of 2021 and has gone on to make 35 Premier League appearances, scoring once and assisting once. The defender has been very instrumental for the Seagulls in recent weeks, creating plenty of chances from open play. He is credited with dead-ball abilities and also 1v1 attacking and defending. £45m sounds good for the Seagulls but Chelsea paying that amount with Ben Chilwell returning from injury after six months tells a different story.
