Jonathan Majors, star of the recently released Creed III, has been arrested on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment following a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman on Saturday. The New York Police Department (NYPD) stated that the woman reported the assault, which took place in an apartment in Manhattan’s Chelsea district.

The 33-year-old actor was taken into custody but was released by Saturday night, according to an NYPD spokesperson. The woman involved in the dispute sustained minor head and neck injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Majors’ lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, has denied any wrongdoing on the actor’s part, stating that he is “completely innocent” and was, in fact, the victim in the altercation with the woman, who was known to him. Chaudhry claims to be gathering evidence to present to the District Attorney in the hopes of having all charges dropped.

This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where the incident occurred, witness testimony from the driver and other individuals who both saw and heard the altercation, and two written statements from the woman recanting her allegations. Chaudhry asserts that this evidence demonstrates Majors’ innocence and shows that he did not assault the woman.

The arrest comes just weeks after Majors presented an award at the Oscars ceremony. The actor first rose to prominence with his role in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco and has since appeared in Netflix’s The Harder They Fall and the Marvel Comics film Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. In Creed III, Majors stars as the adversary of Michael B. Jordan’s character.
