ABUJA, Nigeria – In a commendable effort to rescue Nigerian citizens stranded in the war-ravaged region of Sudan, the Federal Government, in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies, has successfully evacuated 13 Nigerian students from Saudi Arabia. The students, who had fled the conflict in Sudan, are expected to arrive today at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to a statement by NEMA spokesperson Manzo Ezekiel, the safe return of these students is part of a larger evacuation operation aimed at bringing back stranded Nigerians from Sudan. The students, whose names have been released, include Mannira Buniya, Hadiza Idi, Naima Mamuda, Hindatu Salmanu, Aminu Ibrahim, Muntari, Aliya Rabbilu, Muhammad Zubairu, Aisha Sani, Asmau Adamu Dandada, Abdulkadir Lawan Gambo, Suleiman Sani Idris, and Mubarak Zakariya.

Ezekiel revealed that these courageous students had managed to escape the conflict by navigating their way through the Red Sea using boats, ultimately seeking refuge in Saudi Arabia. Recognizing the dire situation faced by these individuals, they reached out to the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia for assistance in returning to their home country.

In response to their pleas, the Nigerian Mission swiftly coordinated with NEMA to arrange for their safe transportation back to Nigeria. The students were meticulously profiled by the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia, ensuring that all necessary preparations were made to facilitate their return home.

The students’ departure from Jeddah today is facilitated by Qatar Airways, a leading airline known for its commitment to passenger safety and comfort. The students are expected to touch down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport later in the day, where they will be warmly received by representatives from NEMA and other relevant government agencies.

The Federal Government, through NEMA, has been actively engaged in providing humanitarian assistance to Nigerian citizens affected by crises and conflicts abroad. This recent evacuation operation underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of its citizens, even in the face of challenging circumstances.

Upon their arrival in Abuja, the evacuated students will undergo necessary medical screenings and be provided with the support and assistance needed to reintegrate into society. NEMA and other relevant agencies will collaborate to offer necessary counseling and aid to help the students recover from the traumatic experiences they endured during their escape from Sudan.

The return of these 13 Nigerian students serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of individuals striving to find peace and security amidst conflict. The Federal Government’s swift response to their distress calls demonstrates its unwavering dedication to the welfare of Nigerian citizens both at home and abroad.

As Nigeria embraces the return of these students, the nation stands united in support of their journey toward healing and rebuilding their lives after enduring the hardships of war.
