Couple Remanded for Assaulting and Raping Housekeeper in Lagos
Housekeeper Allegedly Raped and Assaulted by Lagos Couple

A couple residing in Igbonla, Ketu, Lagos State, has been remanded by the Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. Omolara Alashe, 36, and her husband, Ramoni Lateef, 40, are facing charges of assaulting and raping their 19-year-old housekeeper, as well as stealing and sexual assault. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, ordered the couple’s remand at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre until they receive advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to the prosecutor, Insp Donjor Perezi, the defendants committed the crimes in March at their residence. Ramoni Lateef, the husband, allegedly had sexual intercourse with their housekeeper without her consent. Meanwhile, Omolara Alashe, the wife, would strip the girl naked and instruct her husband to rape her at night. Furthermore, she would beat the victim and insert her fingers into the victim’s vagina until she started bleeding. Omolara Alashe also confiscated the victim’s GTB ATM card and sim card, denying her of her salaries, and using them for her personal use.

The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 260, 137, 287, and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Chief Magistrate did not take the plea of the defendants and adjourned the case until June 8 for mention. The case was reported to the police, leading to the couple’s arrest. It is important to note that assault, rape, and any form of sexual abuse are punishable under the law.
