Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has been on Liverpool’s radar in the last few months and the club are closing in on a summer move for him.
However, PSG have now entered the race to sign Tchouameni and are set to set a price for the midfielder in a few weeks’ time after ending the Ligue 1 season on a high, winning the league title under Mauricio Pocchettino.
The France international has become a big player in recent months and is arguably Monaco’s best player this season. Tchouameni plays as a box-to-box midfielder and has also had spells as a number 10 and also in the holding midfield area. Versatile and diligent, with a proper work ethic, Tchouameni is the focal point for many clubs who intend to boost their midfield next season.
Tchouameni will not come cheap however, as Monaco are demanding a whooping £74m for the player. Liverpool have sent scouts to watch him on many occasions and the 22-year-old has impressed largely. PSG are considering a £70m deal for the Frenchman and could send their representatives to begin a dialogue in the weeks to come.
Liverpool are yet to make a price for the highly-rated midfielder and will continue to monitor him during the coming international break. Liverpool are in the market for a creative midfielder and Tchouameni tends to fit that profile. PSG are looking to sign Tchouameni as Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is ready to leave the club this summer as well as Argentina international Leandro Paredes is linked to a move to Spain.
Tchouameni is a part of Didier Deschamps France squad and he and a few other young players like Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba have been rated highly by the Les Blues boss. A move to Liverpool will see Tchouameni rival the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Harvey Elliot.
PSG are keen on refurbishing their squad ahead of the new season with a good number of departures on the cards. It remains doubtful that Ander Herrera will remain at PSG next season and the fate of the player may well rest in his hands as he has been linked to a return to the Premier League. Ander Herrera joined PSG from Manchester United in the 2019/2020 season.
PSG are working to make sure that Nuno Mendes’s deal is made permanent. The left-back signed from Sporting Lisbon on a loan deal with buy-option. Pocchettino is also urging the board to sign the defender permanently as he is seen as a big part of the club’s future.
Meetings will take place in a matter of weeks between Tchouameni’s agent and both Liverpool and PSG. Manchester United are not interested in the French star and will turn their attention to ensuring Erik ten Hag is properly equipped for the 2022/2023 season.
