On Friday, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed reports of civil unrest in certain parts of the state due to the current scarcity of the naira. The unrest began with protesters gathering at Mile-12, Ketu, Ojota area, along Ikorodu Road, and Iyana-Ipaja around 6 am and later spread to other areas like Agege and Iyana-Iba.

As the rioters began to set bonfires across the road, motorists and residents who were on their way to different places of work hurriedly turned back in panic. Vehicles coming from Ikorodu were unable to go beyond Mile 12 bridge, and they quickly made a U-turn to their destinations. This led to most vehicles being turned back to Ikorodu, including Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the unrest through his verified Twitter handle. He added that operatives of the Force have been deployed to identified areas, and vehicular and human movement have now been fully restored.
