Chelsea, Liverpool Make Premier League History

Chelsea and Liverpool have continued flourishing into the new Premier League campaign and in the meantime, both teams have made history.

Chelsea and Liverpool have extended their Premier League 2018/19 wins to five out of five and have made a history England have not seen in over a century.

Liverpool opened September 15th Saturday’s EPL fixtures with a win over North London side Tottenham 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

On the other hand, The Blues breezed past Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge with 4-1 the scoreline which made them top the Premier League standings.

A perfect start through five games is not unheard of in the Premier League as Chelsea themselves have done it four times, though both of Liverpool’s previous five-for-five came in the old First Division.

However, for two teams to manage it is unheard of — this is first season in Premier League history where a pair of clubs managed perfect starts through five games.

While the Premier League only dates back to 1992-93, it requires a long trek through history to find the last time any English top-flight duo managed it.

The last time it happened was 110 years ago, back in the 1908-09 season. Prior to that it had happened in 1905-06.

More history can be made on Saturday as Watford have also begun the season perfectly, with four wins in four. If the Hornets can deliver another three points against Manchester United, it will be the first time in English top-flight history a trio of teams have managed five wins in five games.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea will face European fixtures midweek, before the Reds try to make it six for six against Southampton at Anfield next week, while the Blues visit London rivals West Ham.

Should both clubs come away with three points, at least one will have their streak stopped the following weekend as they face off against one another at Stamford Bridge on September 29 — after meeting in a midweek Carabao Cup fixture three days before.
