Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola has showered praise on the club’s attacking midfielder Cole Palmer, lauding his performances since joining the London side. Zola expressed admiration for the England international’s ability to entertain fans with his skills on the ball and his impact in front of goal.

Palmer, who joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023, has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young players in the Premier League. In his first season at Stamford Bridge, he delivered an impressive 25 goals and 15 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

In the current season, the young star has already netted six goals and provided five assists in just nine games, solidifying his reputation as a rising talent.

Speaking on the BBC, Zola said, “I’m very impressed with Palmer because he’s doing amazing things and has been doing them for more than a season now. He’s probably one of the players that has surprised me the most. I could see straight away that he had qualities, but I didn’t see all of this coming.”

Zola also highlighted Palmer’s vision and creativity, noting his ability to read the game before receiving the ball. “He always produces good passes and very good assists. When he receives the ball, he is always looking up and often has the pass in mind before he even gets the ball. This is a quality only the really big players have. I’m impressed.”

Zola also praised Palmer’s set-piece abilities, recalling a stunning free-kick the midfielder scored in a recent match. “In the last game, I saw a wonderful free-kick from him, which is something that lights up my eyes all the time.”

The Chelsea legend attributed Palmer’s success to his hard work and the guidance from his coaches. “This is all down to him and the people who have coached and helped him. Now he needs to continue because he is becoming a sensational player.”
