CAHR Appeals for Release of Inmates Who Have Overstayed Their Jail Terms
CAHR Demands Freedom for Inmates Exceeding Prescribed Jail Periods

Warri, Delta State – The Conference for the Actualisation of Human Rights (CAHR) has appealed to the Chief Judge and Prison Controller of Delta State to order the immediate release of Mr. Isiah Mumbor and seven other individuals, stating that they have surpassed their prescribed prison sentences. The coordinator of CAHR, Mr. Omes Ogedegbe, addressed journalists in Warri, shedding light on the case and emphasizing the need for their release.

According to Mr. Ogedegbe, the defendants in question have already served a period exceeding their stipulated ten-year imprisonment term. He highlighted that their sentences should be considered as completed, and as such, they deserve to be set free. “Taking into account that their imprisonment commenced on December 13th, 2016, these individuals have effectively served an uninterrupted duration of seven years. When factoring in the remission system or formula, it becomes apparent that all eight defendants have fulfilled their prescribed jail terms,” Mr. Ogedegbe stated.

The names of the inmates, as provided by Mr. Ogedegbe, are as follows: Isaiah Mumbor, currently held at the Kwale Correctional Center in Delta State; Ife Freedom, confined at the Warri Correctional Center; Sunday Uba Tiemo, also incarcerated at the Warri Correctional Centre; Ernest Ateh, detained at the Whitehouse, Benin Correctional Centre; John Adapamo, serving time at the Oko Correctional Centre in Edo State; God’spower Omoniyi, held at the Enugu Maximum Correctional Centre; Kemi Konyain, confined in the Warri Correctional Centre; and God’spower Ikoro, presently detained at the Agbor Correctional Centre in Delta State.

The CAHR’s call for the release of these inmates underscores their commitment to safeguarding the rights of individuals, ensuring justice is served, and upholding the principles of the legal system. It remains to be seen how the Chief Judge and Prison Controller will respond to this plea, as the fate of these individuals hangs in the balance. CAHR will continue to advocate for their rights and work towards securing their freedom in the coming days.
