
TheΒ government of Burundi on Tuesday announced the βunexpectedβ death of President Pierre Nkurunziza.
The government revealed in a tweeted statement that he died after suffering a cardiac arrest.
He was admitted to hospital on Saturday after feeling unwell, his condition improved but on Monday he had a cardiac arrest and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, officials said.
According to the countryβs constitution, the president of the legislature should take control of the government until the inauguration of election winner Γvariste Ndayishimiye, set for Aug.β20.
