Nigerian music sensation Burnaboy has once again made his mark on the global stage by winning the highly coveted Best International Act award at the 2023 Black Entertainment Awards (BET).
The prestigious event, celebrating its 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, took place on June 25 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles and was broadcasted on British Entertainment Television (BET).
The star-studded affair was graced by rap legends who delivered breathtaking performances, paying tribute to the rich history of Hip Hop.
Icons such as KRS1, Big Daddy, and Fat Joe took the stage and captivated the audience with their timeless hits, setting the tone for a memorable night.
Representing Nigeria, another Afrobeats sensation, Davido, showcased his undeniable talent by delivering a captivating performance of his chart-topping single, “Unavailable.”
This marked the second consecutive year that an Afrobeats artist has taken center stage at the BET Awards, following Fireboy’s remarkable performance the previous year.
Burna Boy faced tough competition in the Best International Act category, going up against Ayra Starr, Central Cee, and Stormzy.
However, his undeniable talent and immense popularity propelled him to secure the coveted award. This victory extends Burna Boy’s remarkable record in the BET Awards, as he has now won the Best International Act category for the fourth time.
Previously, Burna Boy claimed the award for three consecutive years, in 2019, 2020, and 2021, solidifying his position as a global music icon.
The Nigerian superstar’s consistent recognition by BET reflects his immense contributions to the music industry and his unwavering ability to captivate audiences worldwide.
Among the other notable winners at the 2023 BET Awards were two remarkable female singers, Beyoncé and SZA.
SZA dominated multiple categories, clinching the prestigious Album of the Year award, as well as the titles of Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s soul-stirring song “Break My Soul” took home both the Viewers Choice Award and the BET Her Award, solidifying her position as an incomparable musical force.
Other notable winners at the 2023 BET Awards included Chris Brown, Usher, Drake, and the critically acclaimed film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
