Breaking News: Arteta Extends Until 2025
Mikel Arteta

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed an extension of his current contract at Arsenal and the new deal sees him stay until June 2025. The board have been convinced with Arteta’s performances and also his vision that he has about the club, especially in terms of transfers, football philosophy and general management in promoting players to the senior team from the youth ranks.

Arteta,40, was on the verge of being sacked earlier this season when the Gunners lost all their first three games of the season; Brentford, Chelsea and the famous 5-0 loss to Manchester City shortly before the international break. Arteta has since had a rejuvenated and revitalized crop of players that have proved to be diligent in their various tasks on the pitch.

Arteta took over at the club in December 2019 from interim manager  Freddie Ljunberg who was appointed on a short-term basis after Unai Emery was relieved of his duties in 2019. In his first season(2019/2020) Arteta led the Gunners to FA Cup glory, defeating Chelsea in the final and also won the Community Shield against Liverpool in the 2020/2021 season.

With Arsenal able to contract Arteta for a longer period, the board are confident that winger Gabriel Martinelli will also extend. The Arsenal board are not giving up yet on Eddie Nketiah signing a new deal at the club. They are working frantically to ensure he does not leave the Emirates anytime soon.

With just under six weeks before his contract runs out, Arsenal are weighing up a five-year deal that will see him earn a handsome weekly wage. Nketiah wants to be guaranteed regular game time  before he signs any new deal as he has been approached by various PL clubs; Crystal Palace and Leeds, where he has been on loan in the past.

The general feeling is good at Arsenal and they currently sit in fourth place, eligible to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. They are two points ahead of archrivals Spurs who are in fifth place.
