Ayodele Fayose Claims PDP Lacks Candidate to Win Lagos State Election

Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti state, has claimed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lacks a candidate that can win the governorship election in Lagos state. During an interview with Arise TV on Thursday, Fayose stated that the PDP was engaging in theatrics by presenting a candidate in Lagos state. He cited the example of a former Lagos state governor, who only managed to secure 60,000 to 70,000 votes when he ran for office.

In the last Lagos state governorship election, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with a total of 762,134 votes, defeating Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who scored 312,329 votes.

Fayose recently declared that he would never join the ruling APC, despite speculation to the contrary. He emphasized that he was not interested in politics for its own sake, and that he had already been given the opportunity to lead Ekiti state twice.

Fayose went on to caution leaders in the country that the youth would not tolerate being taken for granted. He cited the example of how young people had recently overthrown incumbent leaders and taken control of the political landscape. He also warned leaders that if they mess with the people, they will face consequences in the next election cycle.

Fayose’s support for the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress was based on the principles of equity, which he said demanded that southern Nigeria should take over power at the federal level. Fayose noted that the main opposition party was fractured and ill-prepared for the 2023 elections. He urged the PDP to work harder in order to take power in 2027, and expressed his opposition to the party’s decision not to rotate power to the South. Fayose added that he had no regrets about his actions and would continue to show his respect for Tinubu.
