Premier League club Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos. Carlos had been chased by other PL clubs, Newcastle inclusive but the star turned down the Magpies’ offer back in January.

Carlos was linked to La Liga giants Barcelona but the club withdrew their interest in the Brazilian who has been a very decent player to watch in the last two seasons. Carlos was supposedly set to agree with Newcastle but he declined later because he did not want to be under pressure when the Magpies were facing relegation in January.

He has made 34 appearances for Sevilla this season, scoring thrice. He is well known for winning ground duels and breaking up play against strikers.  Carlos also poses a good threat aerially, though he is only 6’0”.

Aston Villa yesterday agreed to personal terms with the Brazilian and he has agreed to a deal worth about £26m in total. Sevilla have accepted the bid and will let Carlos leave. He will join the club once the transfer market opens on June 10.

The contract is believed to be a four-year deal that will run until June 2026. The player will be in England between Thursday and Friday to undergo his medical and finalize the deal, ahead of the opening of the market.

Villa will now consider offers for one of Kourtney Hause or Ezri Konsa, with the latter continually linked to Fulham and Southampton in recent weeks.  However, Matt Targett will return to Villa Park following the expiration of his loan spell at Newcastle. The Tyneside outfit are rumoured to be willing to sign him permanently but nothing has been agreed upon as of yet.

Sevilla will also begin talks with other clubs for their defender Jules Kounde. Kounde has been scouted multiple times by Chelsea and the West London club are in the forefront to sign the 23-year-old. The France international was supposed to join the Blues back in the summer but the deal fell through after so many weeks of planning and negotiations.

The fee for Kounde is around £60m and following the ‘Chelsea Takeover’, the club are confident of him joining in the summer window.
