This point may prove crucial in Arsenal’s quest for their first league title since 2004, but the ease with which Southampton scored three goals indicated the team’s lack of experience in a title run-in.
Despite dropping six points in three games, Arteta praised his players’ character and stated that he was looking forward to Wednesday’s clash with Pep Guardiola’s City.
Arsenal currently holds a five-point lead, but City has two games in hand. If Arsenal loses on Wednesday, their title bid may come to an end. Arteta expressed his excitement for the upcoming match, stating, “When everything is at stake, you have to go there to win.” He also praised his team’s spirit and stated that none of his players were “hiding” during the match against Southampton.
Former City forward Gabriel Jesus, who has experience winning titles, said that Arsenal must win at his old club. According to data company Gracenote, Arsenal’s chance of winning the title dropped to 32 percent before the Southampton game. With six games remaining, Arsenal’s destiny remains in their own hands. However, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal will have to do something “miraculous” to win the title.
