Arsenal are ready to begin their hunt for a striker even before the summer window opens. Following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona earlier this year and with Alex Lacazette leaving at the end of the season,it leaves the Gunners with only one striker – Eddie Nketiah.
Arsenal have been tracking Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez who has been very impressive this season. The 22-year-old scored the winner in Amsterdam to knock Ajax out of the Champions League and secure a quarter final slot for the Portuguese side.
Arsenal were hoping to sign Dusan Vlahovic before the 21-year-old made the switch to Juventus from Florentine. However, Arsenal’s hierarchy see Nunez as a good fit for the club as he is a young promising talent. Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also an option but he and Nunez are valued around £50m with their respective clubs.
After a good 2020/21 season,Calvert-Lewin has struggled with injury after injury. Tottenham Hotspur are also looking to rival Arsenal in signing Nunez as Harry Kane’s future remains undecided amidst Manchester City rumors. The Gunners are monitoring Lille striker Jonathan David and Ivan Toney of Brentford. Contract talks with Gabriel Martinelli will begin this summer and it is a priority for the Gunners board.
