The ruling APC's national secretary, Ajibola Basiru, just couldn't resist taking a dig at Atiku Abubakar. On Saturday, opposition leaders gathered in Ibadan to plan for 2027, and somewhere during the meetings, a photo captured Atiku appearing to be asleep.
Basiru posted the image on X with the caption, "And the opposition leader slept at the all-important opposition summit." Classic political shade. The APC guy wasn't done either, using the same photo to clap back at people claiming the government was worried about the opposition uniting.
The Ibadan summit brought together some serious players. Atiku showed up, along with Peter Obi (Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate), former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi, and ex-Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. The whole point was to figure out how opposition parties could back one candidate for 2027 instead of splitting votes.
This is peak Nigerian politics energy, honestly. You've got these opposition leaders trying to get their act together, and instead of the story being about strategy or unity, everyone's talking about whether Atiku was actually sleeping or just resting his eyes. Basiru clearly saw the opening and took it without hesitation.
The opposition's bigger plan still stands though. They're serious about presenting a united front in 2027, and political realignments are happening across party lines. But yeah, that photo is going to follow Atiku for a while. Twitter's not going to let this one go anytime soon.
