Real Madrid suffered a devastating 4-2 loss against Girona at Estadi Montilivi, prompting the team’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, to express remorse over the result. The home side secured victory with all four goals scored by Valentin Castellanos, while Madrid’s two goals came from Vinicius Junior and Lucas Vasquez.

Ancelotti promised that the team will improve ahead of their Copa del Rey final against Osasuna and their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City. He acknowledged that the match was poor in defense, and that Madrid was not convincing in the duels. The coach mentioned that the team was caught off guard in two counter-attacks, and from there, everything became more difficult.

In a statement after the match, Ancelotti said, “It’s tough because when you lose it must be tough. The match was bad in defense. And that was the key, because we did well on the ball, especially at the beginning.

I understand that the fans are hurt, we apologize. We are also hurt. But the fans know that we will be fine in the cup final, as well as in the semi-final (against City). It’s harder to say today, but this match does not represent Madrid. We apologize, but we must look ahead.”

Real Madrid could fall 14 points behind league leaders Barcelona if the latter wins against Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday, further diminishing the team’s chances of reclaiming the league. However, Ancelotti’s focus remains on the upcoming games and making sure that the team improves to secure a win.
