Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment at Chelsea’s poor form this season, prior to their upcoming Champions League quarter-final match on Wednesday. Ancelotti previously managed the Blues from 2009-2011 and led them to win a Premier League and FA Cup double in 2010.

During a press conference held on Tuesday ahead of the first leg clash at the Santiago Bernabeu, Ancelotti stated that he was saddened by Chelsea’s current state, as he holds fantastic memories of the club and its staff. Despite his fondness for Chelsea, Ancelotti said that he does not see himself returning to Stamford Bridge for a second stint as head coach, as he hopes that Frank Lampard, who was hired as an interim coach following the sacking of Graham Potter earlier in April, will do a fantastic job leading the team.

Ancelotti, who has a year left on his contract with Real Madrid, did not think that his additional years of experience compared to Lampard would be a factor that would determine the outcome of the match. He praised Lampard’s skills and knowledge, as they previously worked together at Chelsea.

Although there were reports that midfielder Fede Valverde was involved in an altercation with Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena, Ancelotti said that Valverde was training well despite the allegations.

Real Madrid won the Champions League last season and is aiming to win the trophy for the sixth time in ten seasons. Ancelotti believes that his team will give their best in the match, and he hopes that it will be a great game.
