Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has called on Nigerian football fans for support following their shocking defeat against Guinea Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

The Eagles lost 1-0 after a 29th-minute goal by Mama Balde. The defeat saw Nigeria drop to the second position in Group A, with Guinea Bissau taking the lead with seven points, one more than their rivals.

Speaking to the media after the match, Iwobi urged fans to stick by the team, promising to make the country proud in the next match. He also denied that pressure led to their loss, adding that there is always pressure at this level and the team can handle it.

The Eagles have now won none of their last four matches in all competitions, scoring only one goal and conceding nine. They will hope to win their next outing away and hope Sierra Leone drop points against Sao Tome & Principe to qualify for the finals with two games to spare.
