As Premier League action returns following a two-week international break, Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has shared his thoughts on some of the key matches set to take place over the weekend. Shearer, a renowned football pundit, gave his predictions for several exciting fixtures, including the highly anticipated North London Derby.

One of the standout fixtures this weekend is the clash between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. Reflecting on the intensity of these derbies, Shearer told BetFair that he expects a tightly contested match. “These games are always really tight,” he noted. “With the potential injury news for Arsenal, there may not be a lot between the two teams, so I’m tempted to go for a score draw in this one.”

Shearer also turned his attention to Manchester United’s visit to Southampton, a game which comes at a crucial time for United as they aim to recover from recent setbacks. “If Man United were to go there and fail to win, or even worse, be beaten, then the noise around the job and everything else at the club would rank up a notch or three. I’ll go for a draw,” Shearer predicted, emphasising the pressure on the Red Devils.

Liverpool are set to host newly-promoted Nottingham Forest, and Shearer believes the Merseyside club will continue their strong start to the season. “It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Liverpool were to win and keep a clean sheet again,” he remarked, backing Jürgen Klopp’s side for a comfortable home win.

Turning to Manchester City’s fixture against Brentford, Shearer acknowledged the challenge Brentford face, especially with City’s in-form striker Erling Haaland. Haaland recently scored during the international break, adding to the seven goals he already has this season. Shearer said, “Good luck to Brentford out there,” confidently predicting a home win for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Chelsea vs Bournemouth fixture is one that Shearer sees as difficult to predict, given Bournemouth’s early-season form. “This is a tough game to call because Bournemouth have started well,” Shearer commented. Despite this, he slightly favoured the Blues for the win, adding, “I’ll flip a coin on this one and go for an away win.”

With the Premier League back in full swing, fans will be eager to see how Shearer’s predictions hold up as the weekend’s fixtures unfold.
