Air Peace, a prominent Nigerian airline, has stepped forward to support the Federal Government’s efforts in repatriating Nigerian citizens currently stranded in the conflict-ridden Central African nation of Sudan. The airline has committed to providing evacuation services free of charge as a demonstration of patriotism and solidarity, particularly for Nigerian students and others in need of assistance in the crisis-stricken region.
Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyema emphasized that the carrier’s involvement is driven by a sense of duty and concern for the welfare of fellow Nigerians caught in the crossfire. He acknowledged that the government should not be solely responsible for the task at hand, especially considering the urgent need for immediate action.
Given that Sudan’s airspace is currently closed to civilian flights, Onyema has proposed a potential solution: if the stranded Nigerians can be transported to a neighboring country, Air Peace would then arrange flights to evacuate them. Countries such as Kenya and Uganda could serve as potential transit points for these evacuations.
Onyema reiterated the airline’s dedication to acting swiftly and efficiently, stating, “We are very ready to do it immediately. No time wasting.” He further expressed his pride in contributing to efforts that promote national pride, cohesion, peace, and unity, even in the face of ongoing challenges faced by the nation.
This is not the first time Air Peace has provided such support. In 2019, the airline deployed flights to evacuate Nigerians residing in South Africa amidst xenophobic attacks that threatened the lives of African immigrants. The airline’s readiness to assist once again demonstrates its commitment to the well-being of Nigerian citizens in need, both at home and abroad.
