Afenifere Expresses Confidence in Tinubu's Leadership Abilities

The leader of Afenifere, the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, has expressed confidence in the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, stating that he is a true Yoruba son and nationalist who will restore Nigeria to its former glory. Fasoranti made this statement in response to a communiqué by the group’s successor and Secretary General, Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Sola Ebiseni, respectively, after its monthly meeting held at Isanya Ogbo in Ogun State.

According to Fasoranti, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Tinubu the winner of the most keenly contested presidential poll in Nigeria’s history. He added that Afenifere is pleased with Tinubu’s victory and will honor it until a court of competent jurisdiction rules otherwise.

Fasoranti went on to say that “we in Afenifere not only acknowledge this, but we also take delight in his in-coming Presidency and are confident that he will, by the grace of God, return Nigeria to the glorious position that all of us will be proud of.”

The statement by Fasoranti has generated mixed reactions, with some people commending him for his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership abilities, while others have criticized the statement, saying that it is premature and lacks substance. It is worth noting that Tinubu has not yet declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2023, and there is no official confirmation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party he belongs to, regarding his candidacy.

In conclusion, Fasoranti’s statement has highlighted the importance of the Yoruba vote in the Nigerian political landscape and the critical role that Tinubu plays in the region’s politics. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Tinubu will run for president in 2023 and whether he will indeed restore Nigeria to its former glory.
