Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola Salako, has opened up about red flags in relationships and how they can be overlooked.
During an interview with TVC Your View, the wife of politician Kayode Salako revealed that she lost her virginity through rape, which made her develop a strong hatred for sex.
She went on to explain that her first husband did not take her trauma into consideration and wanted sex every day, which made her feel like she was being beaten. This caused her to feel scared of going home, as she associated it with abuse.
“When I wanted to enter my first marriage, the signs were there, even though my partner was rushing me into marriage, and I was like my friends were getting married. All the signs were there – anger issues.
“I saw the signs of abuse and anger but I overlooked them. I had to stay there because of what people would say,” she said.
Foluke admitted that before she married her first husband, she saw red flags but ignored them because she wanted to get married due to peer pressure.
She also disclosed that on her wedding night, her husband asked her to cut her sim card, and when she did, it got broken. This was a clear indication that something was not right.
The actress emphasized the importance of paying attention to red flags in relationships and not ignoring them. She advised that people should take their time to study their partners before getting married.
“Before you say ‘I do’, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons, and you are not being pressured. Do your research, and take your time to study your partner. If you see any red flags, do not ignore them. It is better to be single than to be in an abusive or unhappy marriage,” she said.
