Popular Nigerian actor and activist, Adebowale Debo Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has voiced his opinion on the recent arrest of Afrobeats star, Seun Kuti, by the Nigerian police. Taking to his Twitter page, Mr Macaroni condemned the alleged assault on a police officer by Kuti, but also highlighted the need for justice and mutual respect in the situation.

Expressing his thoughts, Mr Macaroni acknowledged that the police force seemed swift in seeking justice for one of its own who had been assaulted. However, he appealed for the same level of urgency when it comes to addressing cases of harassment and brutality against citizens by the Nigerian Police.

“While I totally condemn assault on police officers, I also condemn any form of maltreatment against Seun Kuti,” Mr Macaroni stated, emphasizing the importance of upholding Kuti’s rights during the pursuit of justice. He urged the authorities to allow the legal process to take its course, highlighting that the same respect should be afforded to both parties involved.

The actor and activist further emphasized the significance of empathy, stating, “I hope the Nigerian Police understand how the people also feel when they assault, brutalize, humiliate, and oppress us. All we want is for things to be done rightly.” Mr Macaroni emphasized the importance of treating everyone with respect and dignity, stressing that both the police and citizens should recognize this fundamental principle.

In his concluding remarks, Mr Macaroni advocated for a collective effort to build a better society based on the principles of good versus evil, rather than a divide between the police and citizens. He stated, “It should be Good against Evil. Not the Police Vs Citizens because we all are capable of both good and evil. If we want a better society, we must encourage good and shun evil.”

The incident involving Seun Kuti and the police officer has sparked discussions about police brutality and the treatment of citizens in Nigeria. As Mr Macaroni uses his platform to address these concerns, it remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and whether it will contribute to a broader conversation on justice and accountability within the Nigerian society.
