Abia State Government Bolsters Team with Notable Appointments, Featuring Nwankwo Kanu

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has announced the appointment of 30 individuals, including former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu, to various positions within the state government. The appointments will take effect from July 11 and are aimed at bolstering the administration’s efforts to drive development and progress in the state.

In a statement released by his chief press secretary, Kazie Uko, Governor Alex Otti unveiled the names of the appointed officials, highlighting their diverse areas of expertise. Notably, Nwankwo Kanu has been appointed as the chairman of Enyimba International Football Club, a renowned Nigerian league champion. Kanu, a former Super Eagles captain and respected figure in the world of football, will be taking over from Felix Anyansi-Agwu, who successfully led the club for an impressive 24-year tenure, during which Enyimba secured two CAF Champions League titles.

Among the other appointments are Ugochukwu Okoroafor, who will serve as the Special Adviser for Monitoring and Evaluation, and Iheanacho Obioma, who has been appointed as the Special Adviser for Political Affairs. Additionally, Prof Ijeoma Iheukwumere will take on the role of Senior Special Assistant for Environment, while Odinakachi Eric Eme will serve as the Senior Special Assistant for Multilateral and Donor Agencies. These appointments reflect the governor’s commitment to assembling a team of capable individuals with a broad range of expertise.

Magdalene Ugoanusi has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Martins Okechukwu Justice (J Martins) will assume the role of Special Assistant for Tourism and Entertainment. Dr. George Chidozie has been designated as the Senior Special Assistant for Special Duties, and Pastor Okorougo Aji will serve as the Special Assistant for Lands and Housing. Dr. Obioma Nwogbe has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant for Transport, further adding to the expertise within the state government.

Chukwunenye Alajemba will be responsible for Homeland Security as the newly appointed Senior Special Assistant, and Ven (Dr.) Joshua Onyeike will take up the position of General Manager of ASOPADEC. Other appointments include Pastor Dike Nwankwo as the Director General of the Abia State Orientation Agency, and Dr. Uloaku Ukaegbu as the Director of the Abia State Agency for Control of AIDS.

Dr. Eric Egwuibe has been selected as the Senior Special Assistant for Budget and Planning, while Dr. Anthony Nwaubani will serve as the Senior Special Assistant for Finance. Ogbonnia Okereke will assume the role of General Manager of ASEPA, and Daniel Chinagozi has been appointed as the Special Assistant for Digital Economy. Chinedu Ekeke will serve as the Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Special Assistant for Sports and Youth Development, while Dr. Oluebube Olunna Chukwu has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant for Due Process.

The remaining appointments include Apostle Kenneth C. Wiper as the Special Assistant for Religious Activities, Ishmael Onuoha as the Senior Special Assistant for Cooperative Societies, and Col. Ezichi Kalu (Rtd.) as the General Manager of the Abia State Road Traffic and Safety Management Agency (ARTSMA). Mathilda Anyamele has been designated as the Special Assistant for Special Duties, Chinwe Kanu Uba as the Special Assistant for Women Mobilization, and Chinwe Onyeukwu as the Special Assistant for Women Affairs.

Governor Alex Otti also appointed Kanu Nwankwo as the Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba, further showcasing the administration’s focus on promoting sports and youth development. In addition, Boniface Alozie Uche will serve as the Chairman of Abia Comets, John Sam Obuh will assume the role of Chairman of Abia Warriors, and Dr. Benson Nwaigburu has been appointed as the General Manager of the Abia State Debt Management Office.

These appointments reflect Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to assembling a team of capable individuals who will contribute to the growth and development of Abia State.
