The highly anticipated 9th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) is set to captivate audiences with a three-day extravaganza, beginning on Thursday 18 May 2023.
Busola Tejumola, the esteemed MultiChoice Nigeria executive head of content, announced in a statement on Wednesday.
She said the ceremony will commence with an opening night and cultural day event, marking the formal initiation of a series of activities leading up to the grand award night on Saturday.
Tejumola emphasized that this year’s edition of the AMVCAs aims to raise the bar in recognizing and rewarding talent across various facets of the African film and television industry.
“Last year, we delighted our viewers with an eight-day lineup of activities preceding the Award Night. This year, we are determined to maintain the momentum by reintroducing all the activities, albeit condensed into three days,” the statement read.
“The three-day affair will commence on May 18 with the much-anticipated ‘Opening Night and Cultural Day’ event, dedicated to celebrating the rich tapestry of African culture and diversity.
“This will be followed by the ‘Runway Show and Nominee Gala’ on May 19, which pays homage to the pivotal role that fashion, style, and design play in the film and television industry. Notably, this event also serves as a platform to uplift young designers, offering them an opportunity to boost their careers.
“As part of the runway competition, winners will have the chance to walk away with generous cash prizes and collaborate with the brand team of Pepsi, one of the featured brands for which they will create innovative designs for the runway.
The pinnacle of the AMVCA extravaganza will be the grand award show, broadcast live on May 20 across all Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv, starting at 4 pm WAT. Audiences can expect a riveting showcase of outstanding talent, as the deserving nominees compete for the coveted AMVCA trophies.
In April, the award organizers unveiled the list of nominees for the 9th AMVCA, building up excitement among fans and industry insiders.
The star-studded event will be hosted by Zozibini Tunzi, the illustrious South African model and Miss Universe 2019, along with the charismatic Nigerian TV star, IK Osakioduwa, bringing their vibrant energy and charm to the stage.
