13-Year-Old Whiz Kid Achieves AWS Milestone in Nigeria

In a remarkable feat of talent and dedication, 13-year-old Joshua Agboola has emerged as the youngest Certified Amazon Web Services (AWS) Developer Associate in Africa. The young programming sensation achieved this milestone after successfully conquering a grueling two-hour examination that rigorously tested his skills and knowledge in deploying, troubleshooting, and developing on the AWS cloud platform.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Agboola’s journey to becoming a certified AWS Developer Associate was inspired by his exceptional performance in the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner examination earlier in the year. Encouraged by his father to pursue a cloud career further, Joshua set his sights on the next level of certification.

Initially aiming for the Solutions Architect Associate certification, which is a popular progression in the AWS cloud journey, Agboola had a change of mind due to the encouragement of an older programmer friend. Opting for the more challenging Developer Associate certification, he dedicated himself to intense study, devoting two to five hours daily for about six weeks to prepare for the exam.

Reflecting on his preparation process, Agboola shared that the first two weeks were spent grasping the core concepts of the course and gaining knowledge of all potential exam topics. Part of his study time was dedicated to revision, covering content from the Solutions Architect course, which bolstered his confidence as he saw his hard work pay off.

Speaking about the motivation behind his pursuit of the Developer Associate certification, Joshua expressed his desire to achieve a world record in the cloud space, becoming the youngest to hold this esteemed title. He also revealed that a tech company in Lagos had already offered to provide him with further technical mentorship, acknowledging his accomplishments in the cloud space.

Agboola now joins the ranks of professionals with extensive knowledge and understanding of core AWS services and expertise in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications. Amazon, the provider of AWS, emphasized that organizations with AWS-certified developers gain a competitive advantage and ensure stakeholder and customer satisfaction.

The young prodigy, in dedicating his achievement to aspiring young technologists, encouraged them to pursue their dreams and build a career in technology. His success serves as a shining example for the next generation of programmers.

Earlier in the year, Agboola had already made history by passing the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification, becoming the youngest in Africa to achieve this distinction. Then, on July 17, 2023, he demonstrated his prowess again by excelling in the AWS Solutions Architect Associate examination, securing another first for Africa.

With his remarkable achievements, Joshua Agboola has become a source of inspiration and pride, not only for his family but also for the tech community in Nigeria and beyond. His determination and passion for technology at such a young age promise a bright future ahead, as he continues to blaze a trail in the ever-evolving world of cloud computing.
