A tragic road accident involving a truck carrying 87 passengers has claimed the lives of at least 24 people on their way from Zaria, Kaduna State to Lagos. The incident took place at Etsu Woro village in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State. The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Kumar Tsukwan, confirmed the incident to journalists in Minna, Niger State’s capital.

According to Mr Tsukwan, the FRSC received a distress call and responded promptly to the scene of the accident, which occurred as a result of a lone accident involving the articulated vehicle (truck). The truck was carrying 74 males, 6 females, and 7 children, making a total of 84 passengers.

Mr Tsukwan also revealed that 45 people suffered varying degrees of injuries, including 39 males, 3 females, and 3 children, while 10 others escaped the crash without injuries. The injured victims were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Kutigi for urgent medical attention, while the deceased bodies were taken to the hospital’s mortuary.

The FRSC commander expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to exercise caution on the road. The truck was eventually removed from the scene of the accident to allow for the free flow of traffic on the road.

It is important to note that accidents such as this highlight the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations, and the need for motorists to prioritize safety on the roads. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of the victims of this tragic accident.
