Sokoto State Government Denies Non-Payment of Salaries Allegations
Aminu Waziri Tambuwal

The government of Sokoto State has refuted allegations that some of its civil servants did not receive their February salaries. According to the state commissioner of information and social re-orientation, Muhammad Akibu Dalhatu, these allegations were made to tarnish the reputation of the state government. The commissioner released a statement on Monday addressing the issue.

Dalhatu noted that the government was aware of the “careless rantings” on social media about the non-payment of salaries. He added that the Sokoto State Government had never failed to pay its civil and public servants since Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal’s administration came into office in 2015.

The commissioner clarified that the government had paid February 2023 salaries and allowances to all of its workforce. Any civil servant who had not received their payment should urgently visit their banks to resolve any issues causing the delay.

Dalhatu stressed that the non-payment of salaries was not unique to Sokoto State. He mentioned that the federal government also faced challenges sourcing funds to pay its employees. Moreover, he commended Governor Tambuwal’s administration for consistently paying salaries and pensions despite limited resources, unlike some governors in other states who owe their workers upwards of a year’s salaries.

In conclusion, Dalhatu sympathized with civil servants who had not yet received their February salaries but reaffirmed that the government was not responsible for any delays caused by their bankers. He urged those responsible for spreading false allegations to look back on the state government’s track record of paying salaries on time since 2015. The commissioner urged civil servants affected by the delay to contact their banks and resolve any issues promptly. He emphasized that this delay was an isolated incident in the eight years of Governor Tambuwal’s administration.
