The new decree, called “Defenders of the Fatherland,” was published on the official government website on Monday.

Since the start of the military operation launched in February 2022, Russia has rarely given any information regarding its losses in the conflict, where its military has faced a series of setbacks.

According to the new decree, the measures are “aimed at ensuring a decent life” for soldiers involved in the Ukraine offensive and for their partners and children.

In February, Putin announced the support measure at the Federal Assembly, almost a year after he sent his troops to Ukraine. “Our duty is to support the families that have lost their loved ones and to help them raise their children and give them an education and a job,” Putin stated during his announcement.

The new fund will provide targeted and personalized assistance to the families of fallen fighters, as well as veterans of the special military operation.

The announcement comes as tensions continue to escalate between Russia and Ukraine, with Russia accused of supporting separatist forces in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas.

The new decree will provide financial support to soldiers involved in the conflict, with benefits including medical care, rehabilitation, and compensation for those injured or killed in action.

The fund will also offer assistance to soldiers’ families, including educational grants and job training programs.
