The legal dispute arises from Shallipopi’s unauthorized sampling of Pa Monday’s song “Obapluto” (N’ogbaisi).

The controversy first came to light when Pa Monday Igbinidu publicly accused Shallipopi and his mother of engaging in deceptive practices. According to the veteran singer, Shallipopi’s team reached out to him after recording and releasing the contentious song, offering a mere N50,000 as compensation for using parts of “Obapluto” without permission.

Disappointed by the lack of acknowledgment and the seemingly token compensation, Pa Monday Igbinidu demanded that Shallipopi properly credit him on the song within a week. However, the deadline passed without any action from Shallipopi or his team.

Taking the matter seriously, Pa Monday Igbinidu enlisted a formidable legal team to pursue justice for the unauthorized use of his musical work. The lawsuit, titled “Copyright Infringement of the Musical Work of Monday Edosomwan Igbinidu alias Monday Edo Igbinidu – Demand to Render Account, Compensation, and an Apology.”

The lawsuit has sent shockwaves through the music community, with fans, fellow artists, and industry professionals closely monitoring the developments. In response to the lawsuit, Shallipopi’s camp has remained relatively tight-lipped, with no official statements released as of yet.

Copyright infringement cases have become increasingly common in the music industry, and this high-profile dispute is expected to draw attention to the importance of respecting intellectual property rights. The outcome of this legal showdown could set a precedent for future cases involving emerging artists and established musicians.
