Senate President Lawan Celebrates Nigerian Journalists on World Press Freedom Day

On the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day, the President of the Senate, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has acknowledged the significant contributions of Nigerian journalists to the country’s socio-political and economic development.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi, the Senate President celebrated Nigerian journalists and expressed his appreciation for their tireless efforts towards promoting democracy and good governance in the country as the fourth estate of the realm.

Senator Lawan emphasized the importance of press freedom in upholding the fundamental human right to freedom of speech and opinion. He stated that promoting press freedom is not only essential for the functioning of a free society but also for ensuring that the rights of an essential segment of society are protected.

Furthermore, he reiterated that the ninth National Assembly has been committed to preserving these rights and ensuring that no legislation under its purview infringes on them.
