The Governor of Lagos State, Babjide Sanwo-Olu, has officially endorsed Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin for the positions of Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.

The endorsement comes after the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominated Akpabio, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and Jibrin, a senator representing Kano North, for these leadership roles in the Senate.

During a meeting with Akpabio and Jibrin at the Lagos Government House on Sunday, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the stability and benefits that these nominees would bring to Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu stated that Akpabio’s wealth of experience and impressive profile would set new standards and break legislative records.

“After extensive discussions and careful consideration of the plans and agenda presented by the Stability Group led by Senator Akpabio, I firmly believe that it is appropriate for us in Lagos to officially endorse them,” Governor Sanwo-Olu announced. “This project aims to bring stability to our country, which will ultimately benefit Nigerians, especially the constituents who elected this distinguished lawmakers-elect.”

The Lagos Governor expressed his confidence in the nominees’ commitment to working harmoniously with the executive, which he believed would lead to a win-win situation for all citizens and for democracy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also expressed his optimism about the incoming 10th National Assembly, stating that it presented great possibilities and an opportunity to chart a new course for the nation.

“With Senator Akpabio and his team bringing their outstanding profiles and experience to the table, I anticipate the establishment of new standards and the breaking of legislative records,” Governor Sanwo-Olu added.

Responding to the endorsement, Godswill Akpabio shared his vision for the National Assembly under his leadership, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with the incoming administration for the betterment of Nigerian citizens.

He particularly stressed the need for economic improvement, stating, “We are challenged by the economy; we want to see a big improvement in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the nation to enable us to repay our loan facilities.”

Akpabio further expressed his desire to attract more foreign direct investment to Nigeria, pledging to support favorable legislation that will ensure the country remains an investment-friendly and prominent business destination in Africa.
