Omah Lay Also Makes Debut on EA Sports Soundtrack with ‘Moving’
Nigerian music continues to gain international recognition as Rema and Shallipopi’s hit song, Benin Boys, has been included in the official soundtrack of the upcoming EA Sports FC25 video game. The game, set to launch on September 27, 2024, will also feature Afrobeat sensation Omah Lay, whose 2024 track Moving makes its first appearance on the EA Sports soundtrack.
This year’s FC25 soundtrack consists of 117 songs from various artists across the globe, offering a wide range of musical styles designed to appeal to the diverse tastes of players worldwide. In a statement, EA Sports explained, “Since 1997, the soundtrack has become a massive cultural and musical moment, providing a global platform to many up-and-coming artists who have seen immense success since their inclusion.” The company also noted that this year’s playlist continues the tradition of spotlighting international talent, showcasing a blend of genres from different parts of the world.
Speaking on the inclusion of Afrobeats in the soundtrack, Damilola Akinwunmi, CEO of Dapper Music, emphasized how the genre has become a global force. “Shallipopi continues to add new feathers to his cap, he continues to make new history and he continues to champion the Benin heritage with every move he has made in his young career. Benin Boys is an appropriate song for this new landmark in his career,” Akinwunmi stated.
Shallipopi, Rema, and Omah Lay now join a prestigious list of Nigerian artists featured in EA Sports’ playlist, which previously included stars such as Burna Boy, Fireboy, Pheelz, BNXN, Olamide, Bad Boy Timz, and Seun Kuti, among others. Their inclusion on the FC25 soundtrack further underscores the growing international influence of Afrobeats and its ability to reach new audiences through platforms like video games.
Commenting on the significance of this milestone, Akinwunmi added, “Over the years, the game has been a cultural staple around the world and has been an avenue for young people to learn about sounds from around the globe. This record is the latest Afrobeats song to make it on the iconic video game, and signifies the viability of Shallipopi’s music in multiple spaces.”
