Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) flag-bearer, has voiced his disappointment in the conduct of the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria. He referred to it as the worst in the country’s recent history, and a setback to the democratic process. In an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, Obi expressed his dissatisfaction with the Electoral law [Act] of 2022, which had given Nigerians hope due to the significant investment in technology.

Obi stated, “We have seen probably what I consider the worst election in our recent history because of the Electoral law [Act] of 2022, which gave so much hope and the huge expenditure we put into technology. Do you know what it means to spend over $1bn? So, there was so much that was promised, and then we went back to what it used to be. For me, that is very devastating.”

The LP flag-bearer went on to say that the conduct of the presidential election had further demoralized young people who had so much hope in the process. Despite this setback, Obi is determined to seek justice and is “on course” to do so.

In conclusion, Obi’s comments on the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria emphasized the need for electoral reform and transparency in the democratic process. He hopes that the lessons learned from this election will lead to positive change in future elections in the country.
