PDP Poised to Overcome APC’s Legacy in Kogi Elections

Dino Melaye, the gubernatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State, has voiced his confidence in the party’s prospects in the forthcoming elections, attributing this optimism to the extensive damage left by the departing All Progressives Congress (APC) administration. Speaking at a pivotal meeting of Kogi PDP stakeholders from all three Senatorial zones of the state, held at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, Melaye highlighted the scale of the challenges inherited from the APC regime.

“PDP is poised to emerge victorious in the upcoming Kogi State election, given the unprecedented hardships we’ve experienced in the history of our state,” Melaye stated. “Our citizens have been pushed into poverty; salaries, pensions, and gratuities have remained unpaid. The healthcare sector is in shambles, with once-functioning General Hospitals now reduced to mere consulting clinics. Education is in a dire state. The PDP is committed to alleviating these issues. With the resolutions and strategies discussed in this meeting, I firmly believe PDP is fully prepared for success in Kogi State.”

Melaye also rallied the people of Kogi State against potential intimidation by the APC, emphasizing the importance of exercising their democratic rights regardless of threats, violence, or humiliation. He assured that the PDP would stand by the populace to protect their rights.

Addressing the gathering, Umar Damagun, Acting National Chairman of the PDP, exuded confidence in the party’s victory. He underscored the importance of the meeting in solidifying support from every party member and supporter in the state ahead of the elections.

“The Kogi elections present us with promising opportunities, and this meeting is a platform to address your concerns and strategize for successful reconciliation before the elections,” Damagun explained. He elaborated on a three-stage reconciliation plan, which would encompass wards, local governments, and the state. Senior stakeholders were designated to spearhead these efforts.

Damagun also conveyed the commitment of the Chairman of the Kogi Campaign committee, the Governor of Osun State, to engage with various zones on a personal basis. “Our campaign efforts will be tailored to specific zones,” he said, expressing his confidence in the governor’s dedication to the responsibilities in Kogi.

As the Kogi State election draws near, the PDP continues to bolster its resolve and unite its members to counter the challenges posed by the outgoing APC administration and secure a better future for the people of Kogi State.
