He made the call at the 2023 exercise Haski Hiyu lecture series, organized by the Armed Forces command and staff college, Jaji Kaduna state.

In his speech, the monarch emphasized the need for traditional rulers to be given specific roles in the constitution to tackle the emerging security challenges facing the country.

He noted that the failure of the security agencies and the government to assign constitutional roles to traditional rulers was largely responsible for the lingering insecurity in Nigeria.

According to Ooni, traditional rulers are uniquely positioned to contribute to the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other related crimes due to their closeness to the people.

He stressed that their involvement would be vital in combating internal security challenges in the country.

He also urged the government to work closely with the traditional institution to tackle insecurity. Ooni believes that by enshrining the roles of traditional rulers in the constitution, Nigeria can effectively tackle contemporary security challenges.
