In a bid to mitigate the effects of the recent removal of fuel subsidy in Ondo State, the government has announced the establishment of a nine-man committee on palliatives.

The decision to form the committee was reached during the state executive council meeting held on Thursday in Akure, the capital city. The meeting, presided over by the Acting Governor of Ondo State, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, emphasized the need to prioritize the welfare of the people amidst the challenges posed by the fuel subsidy removal.

The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Emmanuel Igbasan, made the announcement following the meeting. He assured the citizens that the government is fully aware of the hardships they are currently facing and expressed the commitment to provide swift intervention.

Chief Olugbenga Ale, the Chief of Staff to the governor, will head the committee. Other members of the committee include the Head of Service, the Commissioner of Finance, and other relevant stakeholders. The committee is set to convene a meeting to discuss the fiscal surplus and the anticipated funds from the Federal Government’s proposed N500 billion palliative package.

Speaking on behalf of the government, Commissioner Igbasan conveyed condolences to the people of Ondo State, acknowledging the difficulties caused by the removal of the oil subsidy. He reassured the public that their welfare remains a top priority, and swift action will be taken to address the situation.

The establishment of the palliatives committee reflects the government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of the fuel subsidy removal and ensuring the well-being of citizens across the state.
