According to Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the NYSC Health Initiative For Rural Dwellers has benefited over four million Nigerians across the country over the past eight years. The initiative was launched in 2014 and has treated over two million patients through the Corps Medical personnel, demonstrating the Scheme’s commitment to enhancing quality healthcare delivery for Nigerians.
During the flag-off of the 2023 edition of the NYSC Health Initiative For Rural Dwellers (HIRD programme) held at Malaysia Garden Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) community after Apo Mechanic Area of Garki, Abuja, the DG noted that the program is aimed at improving the lives of underprivileged Nigerians. He also stated that the NYSC has worked alongside both local and international health-based agencies to sustain the HIRD program.
Representing the Director-General at the event, the NYSC Director of Legal Services, Barrister Tijjani Ahmed Ibrahim, reiterated the importance of the HIRD program, and how it has helped the underprivileged in Nigeria access free and quality healthcare. In her address, the NYSC Director of Community Development Service and Special Projects, Mrs Zainab Isah, noted that the Scheme launched the HIRD program in 2014 to promote the well-being of indigent persons at the grassroots level.
She called on public-spirited individuals, philanthropists, government, and non-governmental organizations to partner with the Scheme to ensure a healthy society. By working together, the NYSC Health Initiative For Rural Dwellers can continue to reach more underprivileged individuals across the country, improving their quality of life and providing better access to healthcare services.
