The viral online challenge known as #Don’tLeaveMeChallenge has sparked a tug of war between Nigerian comedian Josh2Funny and Ghana’s Ajeezay.
When it was first introduced, few could have anticipated how far it would spread, with notable celebrities from across nations getting involved in what many see as a fun way of creating something many can relate to.
Now, the bone of contention between two comedians from neighboring countries revolves around the ownership of the #Don’tLeaveMeChallenge as Ghanaian comedian Ajeezay claims he actually started the challenge years ago but under a different name.
According to Ajeezay, he started the “Nonfa Challenge”, a challenge very similar to Josh2Funny’s #Don’tLeaveMeChallenge.
The Ghanaian says his own challenge wasn’t generally accepted because his countrymen do not accept good things.
After listening to Ajeezay’s comments, Jay Foley, the host of Joy Prime’s morning show, decided to reach out to Josh2Funny via Zoom to hear what he had to say about the issue.
The Nigerian comedian said:
I want to make people understand the difference between the information circulating I never started pun, I never started nonfa as you people call it. I started the style that people are doing right now, the #DontLeaveMeChallenge. I was the first person to bring a hypeman to it, I was the first person to say #DontLeaveMe in my videos which made someone watch and it went viral. I know that Ajeezay has made something similar before [but his never caught on].
Nobody started wordplay. But that style, #DontLeaveMeChallenge was started by me, I and my friend, so that’s what people are having fun with. So, don’t feel played or feel like they are overriding you. I will not do that to my brother.”
